Your accounting career – what can you expect?
If successful, you’ll join one of our firms where you’ll become part of an audit team and visit a variety of clients. Initially you’ll observe and learn basic skills from more experienced colleagues. You will be involved in recording clients' systems and testing how they operate. Within weeks you should start to progress and take responsibility for small assignments.
During your second year, you’ll be expected to be competent enough to supervise your junior staff and work on mid-range audits with the minimum of supervision. By the time you qualify, you should be experienced enough to oversee a complete audit, and by the third year, you could be earning a very competitive salary!

Your accounting training
Your accountancy training will consist of both external and practical training. SWATUK not only helps to secure a placement with an accountancy firm, we are also involved in arranging your training for you and provide a mentoring service, to help you succeed in your training and ultimately your exams. Courses are arranged at one of the leading accountancy tutors in London and we’ll monitor your progress and provide you with help and advice whenever you need it.
Our practical accountancy training courses will help enhance your personal skills and improve your performance and understanding of office procedures and requirements.
What’s more, our accountancy training courses offer you the opportunity to meet with students like yourself, who are training in other firms.
Your examination studies
The costs of your first attempt at each Professional Examination are paid for by your firm, as well as your study leave.
Your tutors will provide you with the necessary reading and study material, and you’ll need to be prepared to put in a minimum of 15-20 hours per week additional study time after work.
Practical training
In addition to your examination training, you’ll also attend practical training courses at our London venue in Russell Square to ensure you progress effectively as an accountant. Our courses are designed to enhance your performance both in the office and out on audit. Areas covered include bookkeeping courses, auditing courses and IT. There are also courses on personal skills encompassing supervision of staff, communication and management training. Click here for further details on these courses.
