Tax Reviews from SWATuk

05 February 2008 :: Tax

Is Your Investment in Tax Training Being Maximised?

You’ve probably spent hundreds, if not thousands of ££££’s, training your staff on how to produce tax returns and business tax computations, and keeping them up to date on issues such as the latest Finance Act changes; but that investment in training could be going to waste if you’re not checking the standard of your firm’s tax work.

Is your team putting what they’ve learned into practice or are they placing too much reliance on your tax software?

Are your clients receiving pro-active tax planning advice?

Do you have internal quality control procedures over tax work and are they being adhered to?

Tax is a key area where clients require and expect a high level service from their accountant. Our experience tells us that the level of service varies between firms, and between individuals within a firm.

Enlist SWATUK to undertake a tax review for you. We’ll report on the standard of your tax work and identify any areas that need additional training, helping to ensure you comply with Practice Assurance and the mass of tax legislation.

What’s more, we’ll also look for ways to help you cut unnecessary costs, save time and enhance your client service through greater efficiencies and encouraging proactive tax planning.

Why choose SWATUK?

  • We are recognised by both the ACCA and ICAEW as a reputable provider of external reviews, meaning you can be confident we will review your procedures fully in accordance with the professional standards, ensuring you’re not left exposed in the event of a visit.
  • Our qualified range of tax consultants - including Robert Neeve, an established CPD and CTA lecturer - are either CTA qualified (including a prize-winner) or have extensive practical tax experience. Through technical reading and physically lecturing the subject, our tax consultants can provide you with up to date practical advice and guidance. In addition, they can advise you on how your firm is performing in comparison with other accountancy firms and how others approach particular tax issues, such as online filing.
  • You’ll receive a FREE comprehensive written report within 2 weeks, detailing our findings as well as any action points and/or recommendations arising from the review.
  • We can tailor the visit to meet your requirements, for instance combining with an accounts, efficiency or practice assurance review. You can also request that we target specific areas of concern, such as a particular client, or area of tax.
  • Plus, we can link the results of your tax visit into a training session for your staff, detailing our findings and any action points arising from the review, to help improve their performance on future assignments

Prices

An on-site tax review typically lasts one day. 2008 prices start from £1,030+VAT per on-site day and you’ll receive a written report for each file reviewed, sent to you within 2 weeks of the visit, detailing our findings and any action points. There is no additional charge for this.

In-house tax training

Could your team benefit from additional tax training to improve technical abilities, learn to spot planning opportunities, save time and cut costs?

Whether you require regular or one-off updates, or would like training on a specific tax area, our in-house courses offer you the opportunity to benefit from expert advice and tuition.

Choose from the following in-house courses:

Six Monthly Tax Update: These courses, as run on our public technician programme, are available in June and December each year and keep delegates up to date in all relevant taxation changes, including the Budget and Finance Act. Full course notes will be provided.

One-Off Tax Update: In addition to the above, we can run an update course at any time during the year to suit you. These courses are tailored to the type of update required by the firm and as such, course material is usually built up during the session, based on brief starting notes, as expanded by specific questions asked by delegates.

Specific Tax Refresher Session: Where specific training is needed over a particular tax area (e.g. trusts, enterprise investment schemes, tax credits) we can in most cases arrange for a tailored course to be pulled together meeting your exact requirements. These courses are again very interactive, allowing for questions and demonstrative answers to be given on the day. Brief lecture notes, in bullet point format will be provided to all delegates.
