Probate - All Systems Go!

By Jane Mather

On 22 September 2014, the ICAEW opened up the applications for probate accreditation.

If you are looking to apply and are eligible then you can download all the relevant forms and guidance information from the ICAEW website by clicking here >

How to become authorised for probate

It has recently been announced that any firm may apply to be accredited to carry out probate work by ICAEW (not just ICAEW members). This means that ACCA firms, CTA firms and AAT firms (to name a few) can apply to ICAEW to be accredited to perform probate work once they have authorised individuals in place. Find out more in our article here >

You can obtain authorisation by attending a suitable training course and passing an assessment. SWAT UK's Certificate in Probate and Estate Administration provides the required training and assessment to enable ICAEW members to become Authorised Individuals under the ICAEW Probate Regulations. Upon passing the assessment, this will then need to be submitted to ICAEW as part of a request for authorisation.

Please note: For a firm to become eligible to be a licensed firm to carry out probate work, a principal in that firm must be an authorised individual as defined by regulations. You are strongly recommended to check the ICAEW Probate Regulations (click here) for further details.
