Award-Winning Graduate Lisa Chen Makes SWAT UK Proud!
By Hanna Partock
As you may know, SWAT UK have partnered with several small to medium firms in London and the surrounding area, for whom we recruit graduates to become ACA Graduate Trainee Accountants.
One of these is Alliotts, a firm operating in both Guildford and London with 140 years of experience and a varied client base. Their specialties include Charities, NFP and Education, China, Media, Hotels, Legal, Property Investment, Retail, Technology and High Net Worth individuals, amongst a number of other areas. They are also founder members of Alliott Group, a worldwide alliance of independent accountants and lawyers, represented in nearly 70 countries. With the varied workload and excellent support, they provide a perfect base for graduates to flourish.
We get over a thousand applications throughout the year, and there are a lot of stages for applicants to go through before we are confident that they are a suitable candidate to put forward to the firms. One such candidate is Lisa Chen, who started at Alliotts back in August 2015.
With support from Alliotts, SWAT UK training and her own hard work, Lisa has gone from strength to strength throughout her training.
In March 2016, Lisa sat 3 Professional Level ICAEW exams and passed all 3 of them – Financial Accounting & Reporting (FAR), Audit & Assurance (AA) and Tax Compliance (TC). What is more impressive, is that Lisa went on to win First Place and the Knox prize for the Tax Compliance Paper.
We spoke to Lisa about how she felt on receiving the award, and it’s clear that Alliotts has been a workplace that has enabled her to thrive;
“I feel incredibly honoured to have been awarded the Knox Prize by the ICAEW and am delighted with the result as I had invested a lot of time and hard work into my studies. I would like to thank my Kaplan tutors, and my colleagues at Alliotts for their continued support and for providing a great working environment for me to flourish in.”
Colin Farmer – Staff Partner and Managing Partner at Alliotts London also commented on Lisa’s success:
“Alliotts have been using the student introduction scheme run by SWAT UK (formerly known as Pentagon training) for 20+ years and the Firm have been extremely satisfied with the calibre of students that have been recommended to them by SWAT UK for interview. I recall being particularly impressed by Lisa Chen when I interviewed her. Whilst not recruited specifically for our China Desk, she has become a valued member of that team, as well as the audit and accounts team. It was extremely gratifying to learn that Lisa had won the Knox Award for Tax Compliance in the latest professional examinations; the only student from a Firm outside the Big 4 to do so.
We are very proud of her achievement, and grateful to John Ellis and Amiee Winney at SWAT UK for sending her to us in the first place. Also congratulations must go to Kaplan for providing the tutoring to assist her in this achievement.”
We at SWAT UK are incredibly proud of what Lisa has achieved. She has clearly worked incredibly hard and has a great future ahead of her.
