Staff who are likely to be involved in dealing with estates in the course of administration and require a basic understanding of how estate income is reported and taxed. Also those responsible for preparing estate accounts.

No prior knowledge is assumed.

Course Content

The course provides a basic introduction to the way in which estate income and gains are assessed to tax and how estate income and gains are reported to HMRC and to beneficiaries.

The course will cover: 

  • Dealing with estate income during the administration period
  • Dealing with capital gains
  • The treatment of estate expenses
  • The impact of deeds of variation and disclaimers
  • Reporting estate income and gains to HMRC
  • Completion of form R185
  • Basic estate accounts
  • Practical examples
